Dear DIL:
It's such a joy when you bring my darling grandchild over to visit! I must say I'm impressed with your mothering skills. For example, when you put her on my living room couch you sit there and never walk away and leave her there to roll off onto the floor. You are turning out to be a good mother!
Eh- this one, to me anyway, depends on tone. It could be a sincere compliment, and she's a little clueless... Unless MIL is generally passive aggressive and snarky - not seeing the big insult.
ReplyDeleteHeh! This was my entry! My(late) m-i-l was disappointed in her son's choice of a wife (he could have done much better in her opinion). Because I was fat, very quiet, spoke in a little-girl voice, she considered me "a poor thing" and possibly "slow", the type who might forget and leave the baby in her stroller while at the mall.
ReplyDeleteShe sounds like a very patronizing woman. If you are bored one day you should call her and tell her that you left the baby at the mall.
ReplyDeleteAaww crap, I just read the (late) MIL too late, sorry about that.
